In 1947, soon after World War II and the exposure of the horrors of the Holocaust, a group of visionary Jewish leaders, then known as the Long Beach Jewish Community Council, in a desire to unify and connect the Jewish community, made the decision to publish a newspaper twice monthly, which would “promote and develop harmonious and fruitful Jewish community living”.

Today, the council is known as the Jewish Federation of Greater Long Beach and West Orange County based on the Weinberg Jewish Federation Campus in Long Beach and continues to publish the paper twice monthly and once per month in July and August.  The newspaper is dedicated to news and stories of Jewish interest and importance, and brings to the attention of its readers happenings in the Jewish world; locally (including the Jewish agencies), nationally and internationally, with particular emphasis on Israel – of which they might not otherwise be made aware.  The Jewish Federation has pursued the original policies and goals through the paper’s 55 years of existence.
